CSCW IRC Logs

CSCW IRC Logs

Here are the CSCW IRC logs as one big xml file. Well, not a wholly valid XML, but it shouldn't take much work to figure out what it's saying. There are some private messages to the bot in this dataset, but there from me, so I say it's okay to release them. If you have questions feel free to email me. I'll try to update this file again on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. If you do any interesting research from it let me know.

FAQ Stuff

When was the log last updated?

About 9am EST on Friday Nov 12. This is the final update.

What format is the log in?

It's a little like XML. Shouldn't be difficult to parse.

Why is the last record chomped?

I took a running snapshot. The rest of the buffer had not yet been flushed.

Aren't there privacy issues with this?

Probably. Everyone was told their conversations would be logged.

What about the timestamps?

I run OpenBSD. They're unix timestamps. Number of seconds since Jan 1 1970. You can convert easily with Python.

Can I get Video of Professor Lessig's Talk?

You most certainly can! Thanks to the hard work of Eben Haber, you can use BitTorrent to download the videos. Go to my tracker at http://patrick.wagstrom.net:6969/ to download them. If you'd like the DVD quality videos, shoot me an email and we'll hook something up. And before you ask, yes, the sound is that bad on all of them.
